It's Finished.

I have completed the last 3 blocks
of my quilt.

These last 2 are my favourites especially
the plate which I'm really pleased with .

This one I found very fiddly and some of the other ladies
have said they would never do it again
but I think it looks quite striking when it's finished
so I would do it again.

I invested in a walking foot for my machine to
add the binding and for quilting future quilts
but this one was hand quilted.which I found very relaxing
sitting in front of the telly in the evenings.

I bought the fabric at Christmas and the colours show I was still
in a festive mood.
I really like the backing fabric and it fits with the christmassy feel of the whole quilt.

So here is the finished quilt and
I'm all ready for the next course starting after Easter.

Sling Chic

My little one got fed up with her boring sling
so we decided to glam it up a bit.

One for work wear

And one for evenings.

Nice to know I'm still useful for something.

Try Something New.

As you have probably noticed I'm a great one for for trying new things
and I do like my exercise, so when one of my friends from the W.I.
suggested Nordic Walking I thought 'why not'.
I always thought of this as a winter sport involving long thin skis
and the basics are the same.  You use long poles which you drag
through and push back against which in turn makes you walk faster.
I'm not sure I got the hang of it the first time I tried but I certainly did
the second as my muscles told me so.

It is a great way to burn off a few more calories then normal walking
and of course you can still see  the Norfolk countryside although
you do get some strange looks from people.
Climbing over the stiles with long poles attached to your wrists
isn't easy either but caused great hilarity and it got very muddy in places,

But I will definitely go again as it was fun.

One of the other new things I have tried this year
was making a picture with machine embroidery.
It's no masterpiece but
I am very proud of my first attempt.

My patchwork quilt is nearly finished
with the very basic hand quilting being done in the evenings
and just the binding to do at next weeks lesson to finish it off.
I have already signed up for the next level of classes starting in April.
I was warned it can be addictive.

See you soon

A Bed of Wool

Literally a bed of wool.

This is the pile of wool from Mother -in -Law.

I have kept a small amount for a couple of
crochet projects I want to do
and gave some to a friend
who is having Chemo at the moment and
 needed something to occupy her
so has got her knitting needles out.

The rest has been sent to various places
including  a group in Norfolk called
who make  items for a variety of charities
and with one of their collection points just around the corner
quite a lot went to them.

Thank you all for your help with this and for
just being there in the first place
to ask advice from.
