An inspirational read

The Bank holiday has past and my eldest girl has gone back to Exeter for her teacher training to start
So the house seems strangely quiet but we had a great day together on Monday when we went to a local country show.  The highlight of the afternoon for me was seeing the memorial flight come over the top of Blickling Hall and give a display.  My father was a rear gunner in a Lancaster during the war but this is the first time I have seen and heard one.

The hall also has a wonderful second book barn which swallows my husband for ages when ever we POP in for a coffee.  This time it was me that came away laden with books or magazines to be precise.
They had a box full of these old embroidery mags so my remaining cash was spent and well worth the money.

They are full of inspiration, not that I would ever be able to do anything like these ladies.
This top one is by  Edrica Huws who died in 1999.  To think that is made from fabric scraps I find amazing. You can even see the collar of her dress the shading is so subtle. I love it

I have admired Linda Millers work for ages, to be able to complete pictures like this on a sewing machine must take such patience and control.

On other things I have had a go at the layering from the book I bought the other week.
The image was one I found in collectors fair and used  freezer paper to print it onto some vintage linen,
I love the effect  and am quite pleased with the result so it is now on the wall by my desk.

There is a quote from an article on Blogging in one of the mags which says" The Blog offers a wonderful framework to my creative life-I've made myself do so much more than I ever would have done if I'd been working in isolation'"
I couldn't agree more.

I've been asked to make some corsages and brooches for a friend who is having to wear a hat and wants some variety.

I've been playing around and have a few ideas.

These were given to me as part of a swap and look lovely put together with a little shell button.

A few vintage buttons put together.

This fabric was from another swap and although it doesn't show
in the photo the button matches exactly.
Next is to get my hooks out and do a little hooking for one I think.

I'm off to Somerset for a few days and will be going to the craft fair on Catherines Hill in Frome on Sunday so will take my camera so you can come along to.

By the way LaaLaa is hosting a Swap for Christmas why not pop along and join in.

Enjoy your week.
