Machine embroidery Workshop

Lowestoft is a place I have driven through on my way to somewhere else but have never stopped.
That changed today as my destination was to Patch fabrics  in Lowestoft Town centre, owned by the lovely Claire, to attend one of the workshops that she has arranged.

Before even going upstairs to the workshop I knew my purse was in trouble as Claires shop is fabric addicts dream.

Anyway up the stairs to meet Alex Waylett, Textile artist and our teacher for the day.

This is what we are aspiring to, (Yeh in our dreams)
A couple of examples of Alex's work.
The purses she does are fantastic and she does workshops in those as well
so I will look out for one of those.

So we stated playing by varying our satin stitches and just getting used to moving our work about.

Then we started with layering.
Layer 1-interfacing
2-fabric
3-little scraps
4-layer of net

Then we put into practice the satin stitches in contrasting threads.

Tidy it up  before cutting it up to make in to cards.

This is one of mine.

We were a mixed bunch but all had a great time.

I think they all turned out fantastically.

The rest of the day was spent with the darning foot on and the feed dogs dropped, learning how to control the speed and creating stitches such as vermicelli and granite.

Here's how mine turned out.

But this is how I want it to look eventually.

The word practice springs to mind.

Hope you have all enjoyed your day and speak soon.

  1. I would have loved to go but wasn't able to for a variety of reasons. Claire has said she may have another one and I'll probably be the first in the queue.
It looks like it was a brilliant day.
